Thanks for the pic of the DC half cab KW. Wondered if anyone now recalled or had seen them.
Saw them lots across NM and AZ during 1957-58.

    jamespmack and 650cat425 Thank this.

If 36 inches is considered a coffin sleeper, this must be the box they put your cremated remains in. hqdefault.jpg

At least one of those has been restored. It is in a private collection that is loaned out to a few transportation museums

So how does one climb into this thing? Through a hole in the roof of the cab? Through the door on the side? Did OSHA exist back then? Imagine having to quickly remove yourself from that box when certain bodily functions suddenly come knocking in the middle of the night. Oh and how nice, it looks like it has an upper patio for night star viewing once you've parked. Just fold out the lawn chair, sit back and relax, must've been the "Studio" of it's time. ad8f2345-1d31-4227-b199-d8c8.jpg

that’s an aero cab, wide open back wall, pretty much an over sized day cab with a mattress behind the seats

Them were all Google. I did see the under trailer sleeper at a truck show once. Sketchy at best.

Like my grandfather used to say. Tougher guys. Coast to coast long haul otr started becoming possible right after ww2 with the Dependable Cummins truck diesel. The majority of the drivers were used to the tight living and working quarters on the ships and the planes. Just another day to them. Something to respect and admire for sure. What they did because they didn’t know any better gives us the chance to be lazy and bored. Lol!
