    If you clock out before 12 hours of on-duty/drive, nothing changes. Over 12 hours on the clock requires a full logbook page. You can have one long day infrequently. But under no circumstances are you able to drive "tomorrow" without 10 hours off duty. Your company decides if you operate on 8/70 or 6/60.

    Mehsurewhynot and Rideandrepair Thank this.

    Minor update. That got changed back when to 30 got changed to only count drive time. It's now 14 hours instead of 12.

    I don’t understand. Old rules were 12 hrs with time clock, no logs needed. 100 air miles, and within the State, maybe? Cross State lines needed a Log? I forget. Either way old rule was 10 drive,5 on duty not driving. Now it’s 11 and 4 . I thought the 12 hr. Time clock rules is still the same.

    No. Time card is now 14.
    §395.1 Scope of rules in this part.
    (e) Short-haul operations—
    (1) 150 air-mile radius driver. A driver is exempt from the requirements of §§395.8 and 395.11 if:
    (i) The driver operates within a 150 air-mile radius (172.6 statute miles) of the normal work reporting location;
    (ii) The driver, except a driver-salesperson, returns to the work reporting location and is released from work within 14 consecutive hours;

    It just got changed within the last year, although I can't bring to mind exactly when.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

    I guess that makes things simpler. I still disagree with Drivers being exempt from OT rules. Same Company that paid OT after 8, now pays OT after 50. Should at least be over 40. I guess they’re Categorized as Road Drivers, to use the Loophole. Like Overnite City Drivers were. They not only were they at $12 an hour, in 1994 when the Teamsters were at $17. They were paid all straight time. The OT after 50 became Popular sometime Later in the 90s. It’s all so wrong. Local Drivers on the Clock deserve OT after 40. The Government should have closed that loophole years ago.

    I can't seem to find the actual discussion of why 395.1 was changed last year. All I can see is it was changed. This easy-to-read PDF was put out by the FMCSA that gets into the changes a bit.
