Pretty much.
I think you need to register with UCR also if running across state linesMojo1960 and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
Awesome. Well, like I said, thank you guys for your input and answers. It's a very complicated industry to wrap your head around at first. But I'm sure this is cake for you guys.
Mojo1960, singlescrewshaker and Creswell81 Thank this. -
I think your friend is correct. Looking at it from a person running under 26,000 lbs. I can run a tow vehicle with 11,500lbs GVWR and trailer with 14,000lbs. GVWR having a combination under 26,000 lbs. The flow chart ZVar referenced is talking about when you need CDL. ( IMO ) and not talking into account non CDL requirements ( also IMO ). My truck weighs about 8500lbs and my trailer weighs 6400lbs. With that I will not load over 10,600lbs if my math is correct. I no longer run all over the country when I did not knowing the brokers the weight was my biggest concern.Creswell81 and singlescrewshaker Thank this.

NY HUT if you plan on going to NY state..

Doesn't matter the actual weight (unless over the weight rating). It matters what the weight rating is.
For example if the rating of the pickup is 12,000, and the trailer rating is say 16,000 then that's CDL A territory. It doesn't matter you are hauling sailboat fuel or lead ingots.Mojo1960 and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
I thought HUT was the same with weight as IFTA. I.E. need to be in CDL territory to need it. If not, what are the requirements?Mojo1960, Lite bug and singlescrewshaker Thank this.

This is absolute news to me.. I would have bet the farm that any combination of 26,001lbs or exceeding required a CDL A or B depending on the trailer GVWR..
It seems nobody knows this , nor how many times I looked at it has it dawned on me..
With this new to me info, it really seems one can run a 4 car hauler as non CDL & make some money. 24kHotshot, does this seem like a feasible set up.?
A 26k gross 2 car hauler truck, pulling a 10k gross tag along 2 car, or maybe ever stinger steered.? Seems like you could be 75' long as the power unit carries a vehicle, & be classified as a car hauler..
Seems nobody else has thought of this either..? 36k lb no CDL seems crazy to me..
