    Yeah, I know UCR. I just wanted to make sure HUT wasn't like an every state kinda thing. You can only find so much research until you have to just live it.

    I know what you mean. I would think ifta would cover it but you are under 26001 so idk. Call them and see what they say

    Right!? o_O
    The a major hurdle I see is, how would one go about actually registering a combo like this.? When jonny law sees that registration saying 36,000lbs they are going to think "CDL required" every time, IMO.. I'd be concerned about spending so much time having to prove innocence, there'd be no time to get any trucking done.! lol

    Then if ones plans on running interstate it will need IFTA & IRP apportioned plates. (Something most non cdl folk are trying to avoid) If not you'll be buying trip permits for each state around $40 a pop, & will get pricey pretty quick..

    I do remember the 3 pack car hauler truck you posted about not long ago. That would make it easier to keep the wagon under 10k with only one it.. I was getting greedy & thinking of a 2 place wagon with the axles mounted towards the rear. That way the hitch will carry alot of the weight. It may get kinda squirrelly with too much on the tongue though!! :eek: One might be able to load 2 sprinters, or some other type of high profile vehicle that pays a premium.. LoL

    A long time ago on a hotshot forum, saw something similar to this a CA based operation was trying to run to keep away from being CDL A. That's what gave me the idea.. 3pack truck + 1 car wagon is probably the safer bet...

    There you go. Now I only went out west once to teleport my Daughter in Law’s personal items to San Diego. If I was not planning to run the area I would not give it a second thought. Best thing IMO is to get proper registration. If they are planning to run under 26 they need to understand how work it. Again this is how I started and still run that way.

    @LiteBug

    When you started, how hard was it for you to book loads? Since most brokers don't like new authorities...

    Never was a issue because I ran with the guy I was previously leased to and he did all dispatch with the guys he had been working with. Then I hired a startup dispatch service and we learned together. A lot of companies ask for some type of track record 6 months maybe. But there are a lot of guys currently in this hotshot section of the forum starting out day one with their numbers and does not seem to be a big concern. Continue to read this section and you will see people coming on here and asking questions then you see them getting insurance and running. Historically next month is a slow month however ever since spring I have been wide open. The LTL companies have shifted their priorities and there is more opportunities to add extra drops to my runs. So much demand on carriers since spring. Now when you call a broker and can converse with them in a relaxed manner instilling confidence in your ability and they need something moved well then you got the load. Now you need to sign their rate confirmation, send them your credentials and go pick it up. Let them know when you drop off or anything they ask. Additionally I would call whoever I am delivering to just to make contact with they may have information the broker did not give you.

    I would not say brokers don’t like new authorities, maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong. They are more confident with a longer track record.

    Yeah, I figured. I mean, I have a long career record in Hotels, Real Estate and customer service, so talking professionally with confidence isn't an issue. I'm sure I'll be nervous as all get out. Inside I'll be like "oh jesus, *sweating*, I gotta book this load..." Hahahahaha!
