Do you ever get an assigned tractor at OD? Maybe after x years of service? Or is it always just grab what's in the yard?

Yes you can get a assigned truck , at some point . Not sure when that is. Think you need a set run first. I really don't mind grabbing a truck. Couple months this year I got a brand new truck each week! 93 miles on each one.

    P&D can have set runs?
Is that a "set run" as in same customers every day? Same area? Hmmmmm.

It might be different from terminal to terminal, but at our terminal trucks are assigned to schedule runs - not to drivers. If a driver jumps off a run, they lose the truck.

I'm going to take a gamble and apply to the Indy terminal, since the one here in VA isn't hiring at the moment..

Talked with them and they're hiring. I was in Indy last week visiting my GF and saw a billboard looking for drivers.... Heard they do alot of line-hauling and that's what I'm most interested in...

Anyone out there in Indy? How is it? And are the hours for Line hauling generally 10pm - 8am???

Indy is a huge hub. One of our bigger ones. Run start times are around the clock. Get in at Indy will be far easier then the smaller one in Norfolk.

I've seen only 2 OD trucks out here in my life...

I work out of Indy. They're always hiring. Like sdaniel said, start times around the clock. Extra board for linehaul has day and night starts with the new hires usually starting out on the night shift. You call in to dispatch at 2100 or whatever time your 10 is up and they give you a gate time. Extra board drivers rarely have to bag out, but dispatch will give you prior notice if you might. I've never had to, but I always carry a change of clothes and a toothbrush just in case I have to lay over somewhere because of weather or breakdown, especially during the winter months.
