Hi all! I'm wondering if the tolls (not sure how much it adds up to) are worth it going up 95 from DC to Albany vs going around DC through Harrisburg and Scranton etc. Any insight is appreciated.

You’ll burn the equivalent on fuel pulling the hills depending on time of day it might be a nicer ride

Run up Pa 83 north to 81 north to 78 east to 287 north to 87 north. That's the way I would run to avoid tolls on 95.

Many states tolls are worth it, but pa.... almost always the answer is no, you can pull double the miles on worse terrain (lower mpg) and still be money ahead because their tolls are so high

That's the route I've always ran too, but God forbid you hit 78 at the wrong time lol that traffic can be a killer

    Where does that typically happen?

    Around Allentown somewhere?

87 from 287 to Albany is the tolled New York State Thruway. If you're determined to avoid tolls, you might want to stay on 81 to Binghamton, then take 88 over to Albany.

Gotta run 20 between 88 and albany then to skip that NYT toll lol

I wouldn’t run 88 in anything on wheels. Top 5 ####tiest roads I ever travelled.

It’s been years since I drove in that area, but 15 years ago as a coach bus driver I used to save a fair bit of toll money AND traffic congestion going US 50/301 over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and up through Delaware to pick up I-95 north of the Maryland state line.
