Overall considering how this all went down you might be better off. However my advice is for you to stay 100% honest. If you get another offer there is a possibility they may want to know what happened. I say this because DAC keeps a record of all carrier checks of their database. This information is available to any carrier that later checks DAC. You might get asked what happened and at this point you should be honest. As a general point you should be totally honest even about things you might think is no longer on your MVR. There are so many databases today, you don't want to lose a good job prospect over something like this.

The kiss of death would be a 15 or over speeding ticket, reckless driving, or a Dui.
-
Actually I think the worse thing you can do as a trucker is truck and/or load abandonment. This is the true death sentence to your career. Most anything else will be OK provided enough time has elapsed.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have called a couple other companies and they laughed when I told them the cell phone violation was holding me back.
There is hope for us traffic offenders after all! -
Here's how the recruiting process basically works at "Big Box Trucking, Inc.": If they're sufficiently desperate to put butts in the seat they'll overlook almost anything outside of a failed wiz quiz or recent felony conviction. If they're tight on trucks and have a stack of applications they're going to tell you you're not "Big Box Trucking Inc" material if you got caught doing 10 over on the freeway in 2001.
I can also tell you that any cell phone or electronic device ticket, which in a saner world would be a slap on the wrist type violation assuming nothing bad happened when they caught you, is basically the new Islamic terrorism to all the big companies. I know FedEx is this way too. The catch here is that you don't want to work for these types of companies anyway, unless you like being treated like a child. -
Just don't do it again!!! It irritates me when I am passing a truck and driver has his face glued to the phone, plus swerving like a maniac.
-
Another thing to consider. Once you get your cdl and your driving a truck a cell phone ticket will cost the driver $2,500 and at the same time it will cost your company $10,000. This might be the reason some companies are paranoid.

I totally understand the issues with my past. Feel pretty bad about what I did. Just want a second chance to prove I'm a good person and can drive a truck.
