Well we did night driving last night and I was doing ok when my truck died in 9th gear at 1500 RPM. The truck had an electrical problem and had to go back to terminal. It was kind of scary for a newbie like me, but I pulled it off the road and put flashers on and let the instructor deal with it.
It died on him several times as well, so I am glad I did not try and continue to drive it. -
Home for 2 days with wife, then I go back to school for the last 3 days, then I take the driver test at DMV. Wish me luck.

I just got my Class A license and am planning on going to work for Swift. My orientation begins on Dec. 27th, in Denver. Can anyone tell me anything about Swift. I would also like to know how fast and easy it is to get a dedicated route. How does the pay compare vs miles. I understand the dedicated routes pay more. Any info. anyone can give would be helpful. What about home time?

Gold,
I went to the Swift pay scale. What a joke? Is this still their pay? It says "It announces a "new" scale" or something to that affect. It is dated in October of 2006, over 5 years ago. Does that mean they are still paying the same wage now as 5 years ago? Are all the companies like that? I would like to think, even with nothing more that COLA the wage should be at least betweem 12 and 15 cents higher. I doubt that the companies are still charging at 2006 rates to the people they deliver for, are they?
I am planning on attending CDL College Truck Driving School in the first quarter of 2012. Is this what me, or anyone, can expect? Starting and other wages frozen at 2006 rates?
I understand the longer you drive the more per mile you earn, but they listed those "seasoned drivers" wages so they are the same also.
I believe in working for an honest wage but this seems ridiculous.
Any comments appreciated.
