Do you have more than the basic minimum for deductions? Are you married single or what?

The federal standard tax deduction amounts for taxpayers who do not itemize deductions are listed below.

Current Year 2013 Standard Deduction Table

    Filing Status Standard Deduction
    Single $6,100
    Head of Household $8,950
    Married Filing Separately $6,100
    Married Filing Jointly $12,200
    Qualifying Widow(er)

Yes, Single. I'm at like 10,000 I claimed everything that people have listed that they should claim. For example GPS, Phone, refrigerator. Should I just claim the meal deduction it's self and that's it. Also does it matter on what you grossed annually as well. It sucks being new to the industry and not knowing how or what's going on.

Do you get per diem from your company? Might look at per diem deduction. I'm definitely not an expert but I'd look into it.

The heck with those type places they are the puppy mills for taxes. They know nothing about trucking. Find a CPA that is familiar with trucking and ask if he will look over your stuff. Can't hurt if you like it pay the man and move on.

I worked for 3 months this year on my first job with Werner. No Per-Diem pay I guess I was put on for this year. any ways I made peanuts, 8,000$ with them to start in those 3 months. I'm claiming everything that I can possible and it's up there to like 11k. After I continue on turbo tax nothing happens. I have receipts, but I figured the 59$ a day would be better cause who really spends 59 dollars a day? Plus, I don't have all my receipts for my GPS, and cb radio. If I was to get audited I brought it with credit cards so it wouldn't be hard to get receipts. I'm just not getting why I'm not getting this big amount back.

I do have reciptes from every day all over the country from CA-NYC I'm just so new I'm not sure what my best option would be...sucks

If you have only been OTR for 3 months, you may not have enough to itemize. I'm not sure, that's why I use a tax service that specializes in trucking

We use turbo tax also - not sure what you're missing here.

Did you only make $8k at Werner, or was there more income?
