There are some choices but you way have to order something special. My local distributor always had something that worked.
I thank the most torque is put on clutches in the higher gears under load. Nothing to do with damage from shock loads in lower gears.
Difference between 1650 torque and 2050 torque clutch

A clutch will always slip in the highest gear first and at peak torque. Maybe it's just time for replacement not necessarily an upgrade. If its slipped enough for you to notice under load , I would definalty get it apart sooner than later cuz its days have to be numbered. Go heavier if you really feel it, but there really is no need to go heavier than the trans is rated.
p608 Thanks this. -
Engine originally was a 515hp and 1650 torque.
The engine now is 600hp and 2000 torque so that’s why I’m having the problem in high gear at high torque now.
Although the little 1650 Eaton did hold tough for about a year.
I have played the diesel pick up game long enough to know that I will be chasing higher hp and torque problems from the flywheel right thru the clutch and input shaft and down thru the trans and out the driveshaft to the rear end before this story ends. -
Just bolt a 2050 Eaton easy pedal in.
Your 1650 is not up to the task with the new tune. One thing about adding horse power , you always find the next weakest link. And this case it's your clutch.Hulld Thanks this. -
Then let’s see if I can twist off an input shaft without that mechanical fuse 1650 in there lol -
Have not seen that done yet. Driveshafts yes.
These later model rears are pretty tough. Run real synthetic gear oil, it runs cooler. Hope you have a trans cooler.
Don't be hard on it around the yard. I have seen much more damage from big power spinning a wheel on sand covered black top and grabbing, lunging in holes and banging trailers than running down the road. -
My trans does have a cooler on it.
I’m pretty easy on it and only use the power on the hills so hopefully the heavier clutch will take care of it.
The only time I seem to have an issue is like the other day I was running up a long hill on 81 in pa.
I was in the right hand lane loaded in high gear and I was coming up quick on another truck in my lane climbing the hill.
I couldn’t move over to the left lane because there were a string of cars going by so I had to let out of it so I didn’t run up on the truck in front of me.
After the left lane cleared I tipped back in to the throttle with out down shifting and my boost shot up to about 48#s or so and my clutch cut loose.
As soon as i felt it I backed off and let it lock in again.
I was able to continue to pass the truck and climb the hill as long as I peddled the throttle and kept my boost to no more than 34#s or so.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
Its cooked. It will just get worse and worse now. Time to replace with higher rated clutch

Sense you mentioned you know a little of the diesel performance side of pickups, look up south bend clutches. They do all kinds of clutches for the smaller diesels but not sure about class 8 stuff.
Hulld Thanks this.
