    Now here in ohio my permits give me a gross of 114k on five axles and 55mph.

    Gross weight and axle weight are different. You are permitted to haul more weight but nothing can change the max per axle. Therefore, permitted for more weight means you must have the correct equipment to do so.

    In the Northwest of the US, five-axle rigs routinely run upward of 92K. In Oregon, we call them Chip Haulers. My tractor is set up to haul that...it has to do with suspension and strength of running gear....the experts can better 'splenn that one than I can. I said the truck is rated for 92K, but licensed for 80K.

    Down here they are mainly concerned with the steering axle. None of my permits state anything about tires or axle weight rating.

    Max weight. Like on your drives, 14,000 on your steers, 37,400 on your drives and 37,400 on the tandem of a regular trailer, making your gross weight 88,400 no matter how much your permitted.
