    What perfect timing, me finding this thread. They were just talking about brakes yesterday on the Road Dog and I was wondering how to check them. I'd like to thank ya'll for explaining it to me. As one who hopes to be a "real" driver one day, I'll take all the knowledge your willing to hand out!!!!!!!

    BTW, when Rollover the Original, is talking about smaller guage wire...the smaller the guage, the bigger the wire.

    I agree JimBo60 maybe the Admins will read this thread and see what they can do.
    I am all for helping those who seek it, And anything to encourage a Noobie to be better, more informed, and more profitable I am all for it.
    Considering I look at anyone with less than 60 months on the road as a Rookie, and then With 23 years driving I am still a Rookie, Learning everyday, the ones who know it all, well the need to get on the porch and watch.

    I think tha's part of the problem. I have gotten some really good info from the forum but in a lot of cases it has been by accident, just reading along and something really informative or educational pops up.

    Maybe a Mod could cull some of those threads and consolidate the worthwhile info into a single thread?

    Just a note here. If you can get to an Army Navy store buy a pilots helmet bad. I used one for years to carry all my tools and spare parts. It was great to have pockets to store books and papers and very easy to take along.

    I don't think anyone has mentioned spare parts.
    This mainly applies to company drivers.
    I always made sure I had a selection of light bulbs for the tractor and trailer. Headlights, at least the low beams.
    Marker and turn signal bulbs.
    A handful of wire connectors, the crimpon type, but wirenuts would work as well.
    Tail lights, for the trailer, and some for the tractor as well, some are interchangeable.
    One of those cheap pairs of wire stripper/crimpers.

    Glad hand seals.
    Fuse assortment.
    Fuel filter.

    An O/O will need a lot more than that.

    It is what you use to motivate your pitcher when your American League team has to play a National League team in inter league play. It tends to put some "spark" into the bat of a pitcher who has not swung a bat in years.

    Thus the term "batter cables". :biggrin_2556:

    I hesitate to bring this up but a grease gun might be another item you might need to carry. But this might not suit company drivers well.

    I know how I feel about keeping things lubed, but I am a bit of a fanatic about it.

    That 5th wheel really should be kept lubed, I was a company driver, but my 5th wheel could always go slippety slip.:biggrin_2559:
