that's a new one on me.

i refuse to even give out my SS number to any and all medical providers, let alone, show them my card, i am always told, "no problem"..they claim it's to be used as my patient ID number, which they can just as easily (and they do) give me a random number.

with so many thefts of laptops at medical facilities. all our information is then in the thief's hands.

i always leave my SS card at home, i ONLY TAKE it with me to any SS office, like i did recently, to get my retirement stuff set up.

It shocked me as well. Not sure how to avoid avoiding medical care data breaches. You need to see doctors from time to time. That SS card issue though is a tough nut. For years my DL number was my SS number, i had that changed many years ago. Look I am not trying to say be loose with the SS card, I'm just saying your address is on your CDL, you can get your mail in some situations intercepted. (think about this in regard to long-distance trucking. I know ppl that to this day have preprinted checks with that number on it.
Looks like I am the only one that feels this way, I will stand on my opinion though because I know for a fact you can be victimized by the things you have in your pocket other than that SS card!

in the early years of the CDL, yes, my SS number was included on my CDL, along with my license number, i'm thinking like WTF..???

my checking account only have my checking account number on it, i think all bank checks have at least that, along with the routing number.

this is where (when available) direct deposits are best.

but the states all have various degrees of 2nd amendment 'freedom' denials.

MD, NJ, NY, CT, MA are all places where you WILL go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.

In those states the POPO have the attitude gun = take 'em to Jail and let the Judge sort it out...no exceptions.

I hope I never have to use it but I just recently purchased a P227. I had a local cop ask what I was carrying and he whistled when I told him. I also keep a WASP knife too.

I stuck my card in my wallet and the long form in a folder I kept in my briefcase. The only time i was ever asked if I had my long form was in Texas. To this day I don't know what would have happened had I not had it. I say this because the cops attitude sounded more like if I had it show it to him. 391.43 is so fouled up with all these changes to honest right now I don't have a clue what those rules are.

All I bring ID wise is my CDL and medical papers. My wallet is otherwise full of truck stop member cards, two credit cards, bank card, and contact cards. Rarely ever any cash but my credit cards leave me with available money it doesn't matter too much. Only time I would have ever needed cash was to pay a guy to put chains on my truck when it was snowing. And I am glad I didn't because I learned and now I know how.

If you carry credit cards make sure you have the apps installed on your phone so you can log in and quickly deactivate them if lose your wallet.

Clothes while driving just depends on my mood. Sometimes just pajama bottoms and a tshirt, sometimes jeans and button up shirt. I usually just drive in socks.

Sneakers are plenty fine, but I have high top water proof boots when I am up north to keep the snow out of my shoes. They have come in very handy and have saved my butt many times. Some places get extremely cold with high wind. I recommend the Carhartt Artic Extreme coat.

Also while it's cold, wool socks. Definitely go wool so your toes don't go numb. Some places are negative temperatures with high wind makes it feel like -30 to -70. Nothing to thumb your nose at. You can get frost bite in minutes.. painfully cold temperatures.

Have some presentable clothing for dealing with customers. Jeans and a button up shirt. Carhartt has some really nice button up plaids that will last you a long time made with thick material and makes you look like you on top of your game.

If you do any loading/unloading on your own truck have a rain outift. I went cheap with Walmart stuff, about $20.00 and it's all I have ever needed. Rarely need it, but when it's pouring rain outside and you have to get out there and toss boxes into your trailer, you just hope to god you have a rain suit. I keep two at the bottom of my bag. One for me and one for my partner. I like rain outfits because I feel silly holding an umbrella.

No gun. I'm not against them at all but haven't bothered to bring one. The existing gun laws are tricky for truckers because your permit will not be valid every where you travel. So it's on you and your responsibility. If you are busted with a gun somewhere like Illinois or Maryland, your company wont back you up. I've never had an issue with crazies so far, I just avoid sketchy situations. Though I have known one retired trucker that had one situation where his gun saved his butt at a rest area in Utah.

I know you were kidding but you're right about the spit flying. The members on this thread have done pretty good so far at keeping things civil.
There are quite a few trigger words that the staff watch for because the post containing them usually turns into a train wreck.
Guns is one that usually gets a flame war going., Anything even remotely concerning politics is another.
We'll usually head these off before they get too bad. We don't want to hand out infractions and bans to normally sensible people who get their fuse lit by some off hand remark that shouldn't have been posted in the first place. But we will.
