The way to get consistent miles at a mega carrier is by getting on a dedicated account and both of you have your hazmat. You won't haul much hazmat & when you do...it's not enough that it needs a placard.

Is being dedicated something you can walk right into, or is it an option after a certain time employeed by someone.

Depends. The best thing you can do once you land somewhere, is keep a good personal relationship and line of communication with fleet managers and division heads, as you're being productive and dependable. Let them know your goals and your interests. Keep your ears and eyes open. You think perhaps you see a regular long haul that would be a good half of the equation, mention to somebody you want some of that action and then see if they can get you right back their.

But just know once a truck gets into running those 5,000+ mile weeks, they often have reduced compensation models (for high-mileage team operations). Haz mat is good, but produce and food products is much better in terms of sheer volume and consistency. You can find the occasional dedicated this or that, but often those are short-lived.

So when did they turn the trucks UP to 64? I better get on into a shop. I want 64. Mine still only goes 62.

You can get on them if they have openings. Ask your recruiter.
