The biggest thing is protecting everything from the RF produced by that amp. Sure that 7 foot piece of RG8U may operate it properly, is the shielding of that coax enough to stop stray rfi? Who knows?

Keeping everything away from the electronics.

Will it destroy the electronics, I cant say and I do not think you will get anyone to say that it will not destroy it either.

If you want my my feelings only? I do not think it will hurt it because you were using the 900v but YOU have to make that decision. Will you see much more power than that 900, I do not thinks so.

Remember, these amps are built for one reason only, CB use. They are not designed with the best built in filtering because they have to make them cheap enough to sell. Without that filtering you risk interference. I am not trying to debate on the legal aspect here, I am just letting you know that these cb amps are a gamble, no matter if it is a 50 watt driver or a 1500 watt monster.

    Risky I know

that S-9 is one of the best exports in my opinion . use an external meter . see what that radio make it swing (about 1kw) and adjust your variable power output to about 25% of that ammount .
dont forget to check with peterbuilt about the acceptable amperage draw from an added accesory .

That 1600v would draw about 150-180 amps.

I would just use a 500 watt amp on a company owned truck, I am betting that your old 900 could have shortened the life of the old alternator.

Look at the TS 500V, draws about 45-50 amps

or if you ever thought of being a ham? and your willing to spend the 900 bucks on that 1600v you should buy an ameritron als500
it will work with a cb and once your a ham it will work alot of other places on the radio and is alot cleaner rfi wise

Yes but on the other hand, the mechanics that we have they just put a new alternator in the truck, i cant go and tell them to put a 500 amp alternator into the truck.i hope i will be fine. dont want to get the bossman upset . hehe...:biggrin_25519:

no doubt about it a 2x8 texas star is a darn nice amp . but those big amps are such a pain to properly supply power too . and truth be told................(got my fire-proof drawers on now)............ there aint a heck of a lot of difference between 500 watts and 1500 watts in talking distance . but there will be times when that lil bit of difference will make all the difference . but it will rarely happen on a daily occurance .
a 4 pill will talk to 99% of the people a 2x8 pill will all else being equal .

I'm running a 6 pill and driving it with a Hy-Gain Afterburner in a 2007 379 Pete. My dead key is 400 watts and my peak out put is 1400 watts. Collectively the two are pulling about 150 amps. I have a 130 amp alternator and 3 925 CCA batteries. My amps and my 2500 watt power inverter are wired to the batteries with 2 gauge cable and protected with a 200 amp fuse. My Wilson 5000 is mounted on the headache rack and fed with RG-213 U. I have had two issues with RFI. The clearance lights come on with key down and get brighter with modulation. The audio amplifier for the stereo is on with the key switch in a Pete and I come over it loud and clear. Turning off the stereo doesn't do any good. The solution to my first problem was to leave the clearance lights on when I'm in Ontario raising hell with the nigs so they cant identify me. The other was to install a toggle switch at the fuse box for the audio amp that I can flip with my foot. This way I can get rid of the feed back with the click of a switch and I don't loose the memories on my stereo.

Well,as a common rule of thought on antenna`s. When trying to figure what the wattage a antenna will hold if its advertized as a 2000 watt antenna, it will safely take half that ammount,so I think I would upgrade to either a 5000 wilson, or a monkeymade,if the money is not a problem,my choice would be a monkey made.
