Same way with me. I came off the road to take a local gig. (pulling flats) Gig did not work out. I needed to find something quick. Nothing here pays squat outside of a truck unless I want to work 40 hours a week for 7 bucks an hour.
All the good paying jobs folded up. I was picky in what I wanted from OTR. I wanted weekends home. No qualcomm and a good safety rating from safe stat. With in a couple hours I had 2 jobs on the table meeting what I was looking for.

If trucking is so bad, how did I find these gigs so fast? If I really needed a job I would have had more options. I hear all this trucking is no good. Run do something else. This is the only job I know that pays the bills. This is the only job I know that you can relocate to another state and keep the same co that you are currently driving with. Wake up people. All those great jobs you keep telling people to go to are like unicorns. You hear about them, but when was the last time you seen one?

    Let's try this approach....

I have friend who spent 30 years in the military.
After he retired, people asked him why he just didn't do his "6" and get out (He went in the Coast Guard right after high school and then got in the Sheriff's Dept and didn't like it and joined the Army...).

His response was that in that time, he saw and did more things than anyone else he knew. He had been all over the world and met people from just about every walk of life.....

For him, the it was more than a career...

Now to put it into perspective....things "Suck" when the complainers can't "master the journey".....

Yeah, but it is driving. That is my point. People keep putting down driving, but it is about all that is left that pays the bills.:biggrin_25525:

As said before to some of us it's more than a job or a paycheck. Granted without the paycheck who would do any job but some of us still enjoy the ride and are not just here for the paycheck because everything else has tanked. Just my $.02

Exactly. The paycheck pays the bills, but one of the best things a person could do to help improve this job is if you hate it move on down the road and do something else. Those that gripe and complain constantly are what makes the public think truckers are the scum of the earth. These are the ones tossing trash and littering all over the place. All they hear is the constant hate for this lifestyle. I am not saying there is not things that need fixed or nothing to complain about, but it is all the hate this, can't stand this I am so miserable I want everyone else miserable too...:biggrin_2554:

All I can say is its been a fairly decent way to make a living for me. Where else can a person with no college education make 40 to 50 grand a year (or more)? There are other jobs where you can make that kind of money for such a small investment in a trade school but the bottom line is if you wanna make good money you're gonna hafta work for it. Plumber pipefitter or lineman, the days are long. Truck driver too..
