Guess that explains why I wasn't awakened parking somewhere I knew not to, but did notice the parking ticket between my mirror and mirror housing. I thought the cop was just being nice. Not sure if he was DOT or not. I was thankful he or she did not wake me up and make me move. Ticket was only $54, in New Jersey for those wondering.
DOT knocks on your door at rest area.. on ramp etc. and you do this? is it illegal?

This question was not asked correctly. As a point of law, a cop can interrupt your rest EVEN on private land IF they have a reason to do so. The better question would be is it "proper" for a cop to knock on your door? If you are not parked properly that answer is 100% YES! If they have reason to believe a driver is in medical danger YES they can do a welfare check. If a driver is parked legally and is doing everything right a cop knocking on their door for no good reason is being a jerk and at some point, the driver should consider filing a complaint.

I was sleeping in the first NY rest area on I-81 NB and heard a faint tap on the side of my truck. Knock knock...
I peered through a crack in the curtain and it was a state trooper. I didn't answer or move, stayed real quiet and watched him move over to another truck and start inspecting it. Then I left .TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
