So I was driving through NE last week and all of a sudden CEL went on and then orange service engine light went on and several seconds red-stop engine went on. Luckily I pulled off the road into truck stop and called road service. I was told to do a regen but truck refused to go into regen mode. Got it towed to a shop and 1.5 days later and $1700 later i was down the road. Shop installed new diesel particulate filter. This is on 2013 KW T660 ISX15. I was told there would be light telling me to do forced/parked regen. However there were no lights and truck ran great prior to that. im not sure how to prevent this from happening again.
Nothing you could have done. It needed replacing or baking. Usually around 200-250,000 miles. That's the thing with these new engines. They're being improved, much better than when they first came out, but they'll be much better soon. Good luck.
It is very strange that it all came on in that quick of a time period. There really isn't anything that you can do to prevent it. Cleaning it will prolong the life of the filter but in the end it will still wear out.
The exact same thing happened to me with the same truck you have. Except at 300k miles. Two engine lights. After being derated. 3 days down. (Kenworth closed on weekends)
For you oo's and lease operators it would do you well to research the emissions system on your truck. Sometimes just a sensor thats carboned up can throw some strange codes and the Next thing your replacing this and that at huge cost when in fact it was just something simple.
just want to add info about cleaning the dpf. when you take the truck or dpf to the shop for cleaning ask them they will use baking and blowing or fsx pneumatic cleaning. don't let them to bake your dpf because after 2-3 baking cycles your dpf must be replaced with new one. fsx pneumatic method is much better.
epa10 isx around 300k m, epa10 dd15 around 400k m. I don't know about isx but dd15 will let you drive 2000-2500 m until you get to the shop for cleaning. it will derate when high backpressure will present.
