If your using navigo or something else on the unit that screen will show. AS for messages it will read then out to you text to speech. You just have ti figure out how to do it. From the 2 I have used you can switch from navigo to an HOS screen that you can only get to while driving. And they both give a verbal warning on HOS with 1 hour left to 8 hour break or 11 14 then every 15 minutes.

5 mins after the last time you touch it. There is also a button to dim it manually too.

I thought those were special versions designed for the Cummings motor.

Rachel, mine shows time of day, little else if I don't have it on the home screen. (Buttons) Unless I'm using the GPS, which is what I do. I'm solo, and I can listen to messages if I push the message button then the speak button, which I rarely do unless I'm expecting a pre-plan. Mostly boring messages from Safety, who seem to have fun sending distracting messages and saying "be safe, and focus."

depends on how the company programs it, but ours tell you with one hour to go, 30 minutes to go, 15 minutes to go, 10, 5, then your in violation... for all possible violations

Mine tells me available drive time, whether that is limited by 8 hours without a break, 11 hours driving or 14 hour day.

But I can also go to the messages screen and have them read to me by a very poor computer interpretation of English, and grammar.

    Bwahaha so true.
At least they fixed the Phone Numbers it used to read it as one loooong number.
    Abbreviations? Forget about it.

Our dispatchers and safety put their initials at the end of the messages.
