driving w/ tandams all the way back, '53

    Nj will sometimes enforce this. The thing is I dont really care if if somebody's tandems are front, back or in the middle. Roll down the road how ever you please if your not hurting anyone why would you care where they are.

    Just trying to save somebody a ticket.a BIG one. not trying to tell people what to do, sheeesh. why the attitude ??

    It's fun to watch these trucks in town popping every curb and just missing lightpoles.

    I don't give a #### what the regs are, I regularly hual 53' trailers, loaded and unloaded, with the tandems slid all the back. Is it a pain, yep, have I had a problem nope. Colorado, Wyo., KS, NM, Utah, MT, NE, SD, ND, never had an issue. BTW, in a wind storm, if you can't park it, slide the tandems all the way back on a 53' to give it stability.

    Funny how people can not read and comprehend;
    Federal law states that for twin axles the ONLY distance that matters is
    You can NOT be less than 36' between axles at 34,000 per set.
    There is NO length restriction.


    There is one exception to the use of the
    formula and table: two consecutive sets of
    tandem axles may carry a gross load of
    34,000 pounds each'providing the overall
    distance between the first and last axles of
    such consecutive sets of tandem axles is 36
    feet or more. For example, a 5-axle
    tractor-semitrailer may be used to haul a
    full 34,000 pounds on the tandem of the
    tractor (axles 2 and 3) and the tandem of the
    trailer (axles 4 and 5), providing there is a
    spacing of 36 or more feet between axles 2
    and 5. A spacing of 36 feet or more for axles
    2 through 5 is satisfactory for an actual W
    of 68,000 pounds even though the formula
    or table computes W maximum to be
    66,000 to 67,500 pounds for spacings of 36
    to 38 feet. This special exception is stated in
    the Federal law.

    They told us that over the Qualcomm the other day.....

    How exactly does moving the tandems all the way back give you more stability in high winds?

    Can't find the regs just now, but I think it varies from state to state. And yes if you're running all the way back 1 anal DOT man can give you a bad day. It has
    to do with OAL.

    There is NO OAL law on the interstates and STAA routes.
