Like getting crushed if that trailer loses hydraulic pressure and flops.

Ours didn't. 32 foot Reliance 24 inch over standard with spring suspension. If you had crushed rock on and it was dry it would windrow but not really spread. Same with sand. We used to have three, now there's just two. The third one is at the bottom of a canyon north of Dutch Flat.. We helicoptered the wheels, tires, and suspension out but everything else was junk.
The driver tried to spread 3/4 road base that came out of a pile that had sat in the rain all winter. Too make things worse the road he was spreading on was a pioneer and was just a rough cut before the grader came in. Dummy. He was lucky the trailer broke loose before it drug the tractor over the bank.

There 2 kinds of tub drivers. Ones that have and ones that are going to. But yeah that driver should of known better. At least the break aways worked. Never have wet processed material in a tub.

He was trying to do what he thought was the right thing and it turned out he didn't have quite as much experience on dumps as he'd led us to believe. We hired him as a summer temp and had him hauling rock until the fires started. Should have waited I guess. We kept him on and he did just fine on a water truck.

The closest I've ever come to flopping one was hauling boulders to a levee break near Colusa. I was running the night shift and we didn't have much for lights at either end of the haul. I was dumping and a boulder hung up in the nose. It started over but the shovel operator caught it. Put a pretty big dent in one side but it was better than going over. We gave that guy on the shovel a nice bonus.
The mechanic cut out the dented part, welded some new steel in, and it was back to work the next day.

Sounds like he was a good hand. If the ground isn't solid & smooth tubs should only stock pile.
