Those sales people will tell a potential customer anything to clinch the sale. I've had 2 different guys who work for 2 different companies tell me the sales person promised them that they could pull up a satellite picture in real time of what the TRUCK and DRIVER was doing at that very moment. My response was "Really? I don't think any trucking company could afford that degree of technology." What they describe is a google street view type of thing, only in real time. What a load of BS. Those sales people promise such things and then disappear after the sale is made and they get their share of the take. Then its in the hands of the support dept. when the cra* don't work. Most of these ELD companies are overwhelmed with support requests and just can't resolve the problems in the volume its going to take to get through them all.
I think where I am leased on Omnitracs integrates very well overall into the fleet management software. So the value is there and maybe not so much so for a solo operator. You have to be careful what you choose. There are a lot of worthless ELD systems out there that simply do not work period. Lots of complaints on social media. And forget customer service. Take a number and get in line. Maybe next week they will get back to you. And that is the same even with the reliable systems. They are all swamped and it will be months before everyone has a handle on this.
