I am only certain, that the General Public will not benefit at all from ELDs with regards to safety. ELDs providers will also have their glory days, if not already.
Just an ankle bracelet for drivers ....Total invasion of our rights! Screw ELDs Wait until the other new laws that go along with the mandate kick in! OVER regulation to kill the small companies....And the Megas are in DC all the time paying off who they need to....Just Swift alone has "donated" over 18 million bucks!...
Honestly, as a team it doesn't really affect us one way or the other. I can see problems for solos. Not the least of which is another expense to running a legal truck. Like we need another one of those.
... and stopping a lot of the massive fraudulent logging of many fly-by-night carriers who we know are out there. If we can get just half of the "white Volvo Chicagoland" operators off the road or running legally, it will be worthwhile. Problem is, "the Russians" are good at hacking systems and making them work the way they want them to work.

Drivers (cannot be pushed by their dispatchers and bosses) That is a crock!.....Yes they still can. As soon as the 10 is up you better be rolling no matter if you slept or was waiting at a shipper/receiver for half of your break.....I drove a few weeks for an outfit just like this! They would blow your phone up if you stopped for more than the required 30 minute break too.. Drivers need to grow a set and tell them where to stick it if your company treats you that way!
That may be true, but they can't tell you you can drive 600 miles today when your 70 is sitting at 8 hours when your break is up. There's lots of ways eLogs can keep everybody honest. And if the appointment can be made if you're rolling following a 10:01 break but not a 12:00 break, then I expect that driver to not fart around or waiting too long as the traffic situation becomes a serious problem. Plenty of drivers don't manage their time well and long breaks is by far the biggest reason.
You bet you. I kind of fancy to have a secret tool like that too. Just in case I have to disagree with current HOS on a occasion or two. I don't think that they can hack them too much though. There are scales with IR cameras, electronic toll...the verification potential is high. I despise any HOS. A grown up man with years of CDL experience without any history of DUI, messed up MVR records, criminal records, should be allowed to run as they please, taking full liability for their actions when #### happens. There are sufficient rules there for that already; you cannot drive while fatigued and no 3rd party can force you to do so under a "we won't pay you" and any other threat. If someone does not know that they drive while tired, let them have ELDS.
