yup most recent was on 59 in Texas north of Houston, DOT had a truck pulled over on the shoulder just before the scale so it was either drive by them in right lane and go in scale or get in left lane, give them room but miss scale in doing so. I chose B.
Ever blow by a Weigh Station when it was open?

But I planned on blowing by it. 😁

Guilty as charged. I remember the first time I made that run to Kremmling, the owner told me he picked up 21 pallets at the shipper, because 22 put him over... well, blonde moment (plus my first time with this load, so I wasn't familiar with it), and I left there not realizing they put 22 on me... stopped at a shipper scale on the way, they let me scale out for no charge, so long as I didn't want a printed out ticket, found out I was about 2200 over gross. When I got to Downieville, I got right beside a Swift truck, and loitered beside him past the scale when he got the green light from his prepass. Got through, hit I25, made sure I was south of Franktown (where they like to set up portables) before I jumped over from I25 to CO83 in order to bypass the Monument scale. The truck is licensed for 85k, but it has to be bulk or non-divisible.

I bypassed the Lordsburg scale through Lordsburg once.

Every scale has a sign that tells you if its open..a GPS is only a tool..not the decision maker ...I know that 30 years ago California it was 600 dollar fine..I knew a mechanic in his mechanics truck that blew by a scale so some of these tickets aren't cheap..and either the scale cops will come after you..or that guy down the road..so don't count on getting out of it.
Now days many states have weigh in motion ..most of the time you don't even know you went over it out on the freeway..I knew a trailer mfg who was trying to get legal on a new trailer...they not only weighed the trailer going down the freeway..but gave him his axle spacings.. The big thing is don't blow the scale..as when you do get caught..I hope you have a lot of time and money .. -
The NY inspection area, was NOT a scalehouse. It was setup at a rest area. Only you couldn't see the sign telling you to pull in until you were right on it coming around the curve and I was in the left lane because I was passing slower traffic. pretty hard to safely get over and make your exit at that point.
As for my first week out and missing a scalehouse, i was told if it beeps and turns red you go in, if it beeps and turns green you don't have to go in. Trainer neglected to tell me what to do if neither one happens and a scalehouse is open. I just kinda blanked out and wasn't sure...but no one ever came after me. A quick call to tolls later on helped rectify that from ever happening again.
these were just part of the learning curve for a new driver. that's all.
so ya, trip planning had nothing to do with either one of my situations. I knew where the one I went past, but like I said, I blanked out and didn't know what to do when the little blue box didnt work like it should have. first week in my own truck. nerves. anxiety. jitters. struggling to get my bearing without someone there telling me what to do.
and I never watched a single one of those stupid CBT's Weiner tries to ram down your throat. I always put the volume on mute, browsed the net and then answered the questions and always passed, never missing more than 1 question on any of them. waste more time doing CBT's for that dumpster fire company than you do driving and getting work done. smh. -
Blowed the west Memphis scale on 40 last night.
