Was near Worchester MA on an Interstate hwy w/ a heavy load in the right lane about to take exit ramp to get onto a different interstate hwy. Another 18 wheeler cut me off from the left to get onto the exit ramp, he hit pretty #### hard on his brakes when he got in front of me. I slammed the clutch pedal to the floor, but drivetrain remained in engauged. I jammed down the break pedal, trying to avoid skidding out and/ or a rear end collision w/that 18 wheeler. Too close for comfort. Ended up driving to the TA in Maybrook NY (X-5, I-84). At the service counter, some clean guy told me that clutch repairs are out of the scope of their service. I told him that I thought that it was simple, like a release arm had slipped out of a rubber grommet. Doing my best to explain to mr clean using my fingers & hands to demonstrate what I believed malfunctioned, & that I only wanted his mechanic to look # it, "& if he can't fix it, ok". He finally agreed to this. Turned out the mechanic was able to fix it using different size washers, etc. Total repair cost, "under $100 dollars".
Rewind to when I was on I-84 approx 10 miles from that TA, I parked at the rest area on top of that very steep mountain. I had no jakes & figured I better stop here for the night. As I was sitting I got to thinking "pull up the clutch pedal". I did it & the pedal stayed up (aka: now I had jakes), the rest is history.

When driving w/o an operable clutch pedal, it's a good idea to pull over when you can, & pull the clutch pedal up (It'll probably stay in the up position). At least you'll now have jakes.

Had my clutch go out when I made my pickup in Honolulu and had to drive it that way to Anchorage. Getting the wheels onto the pontoons was the hardest part. And then engaging the PTO to the propeller...that was fun too.

Well, I never... you should've hit the "Hovercraft Conversion" switch to deal with that particular problem. Of course, you'd have to change your handle to 00-Injun... "Shaken, not stirred.":biggrin_25523:

Clutch master cyl froze andbroke in my 2007 dodge cummins last fenuary in Springfield Missouri . Drove all the way home to Monticello ga with no clutch.... Talk about a long ride. 75 north of Atlanta was backed up from about Dalton. To 285 due to the snow and ice, took about 3 hours to go that far. Talk about fun

I wheeled into a WB restaria on I-12 in LA and when I mashed the clutch it went to floor.
Stuck in 8th gear and no clutch, and couldn't pop it out cause it was under strain.

Nothin like it to get your blood pumping.

I did make it to the next truck shop.

But then I am one who uses clutch for starting and stopping only.
All shifts are "floated" unless something special comes up.

RPM shifting. I highly recommend trying it out to new drivers.
As I have been told before by my bosses and mechanics that you dont really
need a clutch to drive.Or my favorite you dont need the clutch to get it to the
    shop.

This thread has been about a clutch that won't disengage, how about when the disc or pressure plate fails, either partially, which causes the clutch to slip under torque, or completely, which means it isn't moving without a hook?

Talk to Mr. Haney!! I hear he has some knowledge of this!!! His big old engine put the hurt on his clutch and he had to nurse it home.

It just takes a light foot on the throttle, gain momentum when you can.
