Did you inspect the oil drain area where the air compressor bolts to the rear of front cover? The only thing left really is that the air compressor oil isn't draining back into the engine.

    SAR Thanks this.

what should i look for regarding the area where the compressor bolts to the rear of the front cover? what is very confusing is that i have a cat 3126 motor and in that area in front of the air compressor there is a reservoir spout. No idea what goes in there (appears to be oil), what its use is, or purpose. It has no dipstick.

That's how you fill the engine with oil when you do a oil change .
How did you think you get oil in the engine??? Have you not done a service on the engine yet??

[IMG] valve cover cap onto top seems like a more logical place to add oil.... I cant even reach that thing on the side with a funnel.

Well then I guess you can use either or.

Depending what the engine has on top of the valve cover the other option is sometimes easier. Depends on application.
