imtimmy. I went to the job fair in Irving,TX this weekend as well. I got hired on as a linehaul driver. I was told they stay very busy as well. I just got my cdl a couple of months ago so I'm fairly new to trucking. They told me they was going to train me for 160 hours before they send me out. Im pretty excited. I hope I have a good experience at YRC.
That's great! Yes I hope our experience at YRC is a good one. I'm leaving a full time job with Sysco, going to Fedex express in afternoon part time and than thinking YRC will have me overnight on dock. On days off or maybe after working I would train in yard learning how to drive trailer etc and get my endorsements. I was told once I achieve my A license than I would get hired ft, city p/d preferably.

Already gone, how long are you at YRC now? It seems like it will be a great opportunity for myself even if having to be on call, work overnight/weekends. Are you linehaul or city?
I was on call at Yellow before the merger working on the Dock...It was great... Very laid back work environment and you could work when you want... Say they call you for 20:00 shift and you say no... 9/10 times they will call you for the next shift and so on and so on it was up to you if you wanted to work or not... For being a casual ( a few years ago ) I was making like $18.00 an hour... Being in my early 20's still living at home and fully involved in the bar scene it was great... Key things to remember working on the dock are "high and tight" and use airbags... Obviously a skid that ways 1000#s shouldn't be stacked on a skid that is 300... Common sense...Use a lot of dunnage... If your a hard worker an not lazy you will see a lot of drivers to fat and or lazy to get off the forklift and load freight properly... Good luck 2 u .
im at Holland, ive been here since last September, been busy, never got laid off in the winter like I was expecting. probably the best job I'll ever have, unless I go chase the pipeline work, or maybe haul cars for Cooper or Cassens. I'm a linehaul driver. Holland is a little different than YRC, we are out all week, you will be out for 3 beds max, then home, otherwise everything on day 4 and after for miles and hours is 1.5 times your pay. You will slipseat though, I don't, I have an assigned tractor that I have some of my stuff set up in. I forgot, are you going to city or linehaul?
city is good, take your time and don't rush. rushing is how you screw things up. you will be doing tight back's all day, and running a fork truck or pallet jack when you are delivering/picking up. its a good job, not many like it anymore, there are a lot less freight companies anymore, since cheap truckload outfits will pay their drivers so little. you should be able to make a lot of money, if you want to work, and LEARN about the right way to do things.
When your doing city p/d remember your paid hourly. Amd remember it's your license not YRCs. I worked for them for almost 3 years, two different terminals. Worked as a p/d driver for about a year, then was transferred to another amd ran the road. I really enjoyed running the road, made awesome money, home every night (only layed over a few times) heard they are doing better and new tractors coming in.
Not in 116 Grimace! We got ratter trucks then NEMF, go figure! And a lot less freight. The wanted to walk 2 guys today! I almost volunteered! Shape my butt. Carry on, crazey-out1
