Actually I have quite good reading comprehension skills. What you don't realize is your story isn't new, and they all tell the story as a victim. Guess what you're a victim of yourself. You knew there would be cameras and all that goes with them. You knew home time isn't a set time every time. However I understand the younger generation hasn't learned self responsibility and are far to used to momma wiping your behinds.

 

Wrong again, nothing was ever mentioned about there being cameras. That was my first surprise when I got into my first truck.

C.F. makes a lot of valid points, and has likely been educated to the point of not making the same mistakes again with signing on with the next bad mega carrier....
Unfortunately, this is what the industry has come too...Years ago there were no cameras and very little micro-managing...You were dispatched and it was up to you to make sure it got there on-time, in one piece and no accidents....There was no baby-sitting...Hence the term professional driver....You planned your trips, your stops, your phone calls, dealt with breakdowns, unreasonable shippers, and other emergencies....Basically, the company didn't want to hear from you unless you were dying...You were expected to deal with whatever came up....Sadly, those days are mostly gone....

Me personally, I've never used a GPS and won't have one., maps always did me well....Also, I would never drive a truck with a Qualcomm, e-log, cameras, or any other spy system installed....You can stick it....What I will do for you is get the job done, make us both money, and give you 110%....

On the flip side, there are too many "drivers" out here today that whine & cry waaay too much....Heck man, back in the day we didn't have any AC, try that in a COE in GA in the summer....We didn't have PS, hydraulic clutch, or air-ride, sometimes the heater crapped the bed way up in No. Maine in the winter....Sometimes a hot load just had to go, but I was going home, not this time, but we'll make it up to you...Know what, they did....You see it worked both ways...But that's trucking back then....

Sometimes stuff happens at the carrier beyond their control, know what, we sucked it up and went on...Why, because we rode for the brand that's why....They took care of us and we of them....We never had any "fleet manager"....We had a dispatcher, who wouldn't dream of micro-managing a driver...They simply gave us the pick-up time & place, that's it...We took it from there... Sadly, that's gone away too......I'm glad I'm "semi-retired", just my 2 cents....

 

And just what is there to cover when it comes to a t/s pull through?

 

Mainly on how to do it. My truck driving school never covered that. How to set it up, what to look for, all the angles, etc...

I am glad I went through what I did. As mentioned before, I didn't come into this career expecting it to be all smooth sailing. I have learned soooooooo much, because if I hadn't gone through that, I don't know where I'd be now. But the level of incompetence that my FMs displayed blew me away. Roehl as a whole, is very unprofessional, and it really makes me wonder what it takes and what they go through to get hired there.

Multiple times, I was amazed that they would be so oblivious to even seeing how many hours I have left to drive before dispatching me. Or when I try to do something nice by putting up a meaningless sign, then get insulted and berated for trying to educate the uneducated. Yeah, sure, I could've taped it to the back of the trailer or something like that, but since all the 4 wheelers would usually be looking to share their disdain for me the driver, I thought that to be a good location. But my FM didn't, and felt it necessary to insult me. Trucking or not, you simply don't do that to an employee.

Now, I haul tanker for a local company. I love it. The dispatchers are super nice, always willing to work with you, never condescending, it's a night and day difference. Just goes to show that you don't always have to be a jerk to get the job done. Be tactful, be respectful, and eventually it'll get you where you need to go.
