Fact: 2019 will have been a very bad year already. Could I be better off as a company driver or not?

    Take a look around ...
The Johnny come latelys of 17 and 18s equipment looks ratty and rattier .
The auction lots are full and deals already abound on the used equipment.
    The market is adjusting.

So your not figuring your pay into your CPM then? I was wondering how it was so low.

Our full time mechanic is $800 a week salary and hes good. He can just barely manage most of the repairs on 6 trucks. No one is paying $150 an hour unless theyre a fool and hiring a mobile service truck for everything.

You need a big garage and atleast $20k in essential tools for thorough inhouse maintenance IMO. Took 20+ yrs to collect mine.

    $800 a week for a full time mechanic? That's quite a bargain.

$150/hr includes a bit more than the mechanic.

As for flatbed rates vs van.. The first time you have the wind take an 8ft tarp out of your hands and you totter on the edge with your eyeballs gauging out that 15ft plunge, youll say this aint worth it!

Flats end up with a lot more day hour delivery appts instead of 24hr warehouses so theres that to work around too. Ive had loads take an hour of labor to secure and 3 more to tarp in the wind.

Indeed. But thats the going rate. MOST jobs around us pay $9-12. My wife saved lives for $13.

I havent gone thru all the replies yet. So I'm sure someone has already addressed this. But who is betting $200,000? (And even if they did) who is paying a straight full 30% in taxes on that amount? More like $200,000 GROSS and deducting it down to 45k tax around $6-8000. (Didnt do math pulled tax amount off top of head)
