thanks for the input guys, starting too see that if your a trucker, your pretty much a ghost to your family on the road 24/7 with maybe 3 or 4 days home a month....mmmm, not sure if Im able to do that with a newborn on the way....seems kinda rediculous....most every other career including military that requires you to be gone alot also gets you home in lue of that....trucking, your out for a month, then home for 3 days and they're ######## at you to get back on the road??? not sure thats for me...but if I was single.....

chevelle, im not trying to scare you away from trucking... alll to much anymore people are getting into trucking thinking that it will be great wat to make money and save money and they all think they will only be out for 2-4 weeks... its not ALWAYS like that... but as a new guy to the industry and a baby on the way... and clearly wanting your home time.. this may not be the job for you...
i would hate to see you spend thousands of dollars on training to find out its not for you...
3-4 days a month at the extream most... i tell people to stay out 6 weeks and get some home time built up.. but for someone such as your self with the baby on the way you may be in cali. when you get the call that your a dad...
if your having any doubt about the job.. which it seems as tho you are.. you need to take a long time and think about it long and hard and talk about it with the wife/gf....
far tooo many companies promise this and that... their are people out here for a year plus still looking for This and That, that they were promised...

hey guys, I appreciate the honesty...thats why I figured Id ask the guys actually in a truck doing it rather than some recruiter thats going to ######### me all the way to the bank.....better to find out now than on the road 6 months into debt I cant pay. thanks for the honesty guys....its a shame, because part of me really wants to get into it...I like that kind of lifestyle...but what kind of father is gone 6 weeks, then home a few days, then gone again? ####, My kids wont know who I am

Im going tomorrow to talk with Truck driving institute in Milton FL. After telling the guy all the above, he things there are a few lines in the regional area which have you home every week (not like clockwork, but within 6-8 days on the road, home for a day or 2) that maybe something i can work with. I talked with roadmaster and the b**###### alarm in my head was going off....Not impressed. These guys, while there a school...seem to be a little more straight forward....I can only hope. he mentioned companys like pepsi that will hire out of school, but your going to work your butt off loading and unloading....but have you home every night.......uhhggg, here goes nuthin ;) lol

sometimes youll have time to stop, eat, and even take a nap in the middle of day. other times, youll need to keep that left door shut and the hammer down. shipper, traffic, accident, breakdown are some of the things that slow you down. If youve never driven in the northeast, prepare for delays is a must!! Trying to get up that I 95 corridor at 1700 thru NYC and CT is gonna be a slow roll. Some companies will let you run 3 or 4 weeks then be off 3 or 4 days. Generally the rule of thumb is 1 day off for ever 6 days out. I am usually home every weekend for my 34 hour restart sometimes im there for 48 - 72 hours. Depends on the freight and that particular load your hauling. There have been times Ive gotten home on Saturday at 1600 and left sunday morning with first light. Thats one of my favorite things about trucking, there arent any set hours.

It depends on how close you live to the companies travel lanes. If you live 200 miles off the interstate and your company rarely gets through there, you're not getting home too often. But most importantly, you gotta remember, trucking companies are not in the driver coddling business, they're in the transportation business. You gotta feel for dispatchers who have 50-60 trucks on their board and they think the day is done with all loads covered, then suddenly, a driver needs to get home for an emergency because his kid has a toothache or whatever.
