So heres what im thinking. Im currently living in and working a local home daily route in portland OR. Im considering move across the river into Vancouver WA because the state of WA has no income tax. If I keep the same job would i still have to pay Oregons income tax?

My company operates in the western 11 states but im a floater for the local routes, I go to washington and oregon. If I get a route that exclusively works in Oregon would that make a difference?

Best to ask your CPA for the answers you seek.

I live in Vancouver. You pay state income tax based on your domicile. look up "amtrak exemption".

In MI it's based on 1/2 the tax rate for the business location and 1/2 the tax is resident location.

Contact local tax office or cpa to see what both the state laws are.

Should be the same as an OTR driver working for a co. in Tn. for instance and living in Az. They deduct taxes at your homestate, not the state you work from.

You don't need to pay Oregon's income tax provided you don't drive exclusively in Oregon. If you drive in Washington with some regularity you should be fine. Even though you don't have to pay Oregon taxes you still need to file an Oregon return.

If you live in Connecticut and work in New York city you pay taxes in both.

Talk to a tax professional in your state. Please do not trust the erroneous advice you're getting here.

Having lived in a number of states, I'll concur that you need to talk to a CPA. Every state is different and it can get complicated real fast, depending on individual situation.

If there is one entity that can make your life difficult, it's the tax man. It's best to be sure.
