The reality is that if you are working under a 1099 in most states, there is not an employee relationship for workmen's comp insurance.

It is the main reason that most people revert to this method. They only pay the driver to work and anything that happens is their own problem.

Looked it up, if you claimed in Iowa.

80% of you wages, after taxes.

Heck, that's as good as working wage almost, being tax free.

    Just a 20% cut.

When I received it years ago, it was half my pay, that hurts !!!!!

I know what you're saying CA Cougar. A health event happens you are thrown to the dogs at first while all the red tape settles. I got sick and disqualified from driving. I just got my disability insurance approved and received my back pay yesterday. Three and a half months after I filed. If it wasn't for a 401K withdrawal and tapping into my savings, I don't know what I would of done.
The same goes with SSI and anybody that files. Most go through a 2-3 year waiting period before it is approved. What do you do? You exhaust all your material things and depend on family.

I had a workers comp dealing years back. You get treated like an idiot and a liar. My company refused to file a claim. Meanwhile, my health insurance wouldn't pay because it was work related. So I was stuck paying out of pocket. After I filed a complaint with the state, my employer was threatened with a $10,000 fine if they didn't file. It wasn't long then I got reimbursed.

Our health care system is screwed up way beyond the uninsured. I wish you the best.
