could have been another employer that they applied to, called him..more money, better benefits, equipment, etc, etc. i never did that myself, but today, some people want the best of the best of the best...and still that ain't good enough. move on, to the next applicant.. what i WOULD DO is, make THEM pay for the drug test, and IF they stay with you for x amount of time..THEN you reimburse them......NOT BEFORE that time..>!!!!...BE SURE to put that in WRITING, make him sign it, give hom a copy and of course you keep a copy...
You're probably right, still makes him a gutless maggot for not saying sorry to waste your time got a better deal rather than hiding away or lying though
Scumbag wanted you to pay for his drug test. Now that he passed he knows he can take the test for the job he really wanted. Make them pay for their own test you can reimburse later
You know I have been on the fence going back to going into the Parasail business the last 6 months instead of dumping money into my personal semi and going out on my own It’s a business I know well and I know of a prime location I can get away workin just in the summer and stumbled upon a nice boat I could convert to a winch boat . Than I came to my senses and remembered what a headache employees can be. I would need a minimum of 3 employees with at least one of them being a wannabe captain with a captains license. Too much BS. Employees were a pain 10 years ago when I got out of it. Now with today’s kids I think it would be 10 times the Pain
When I was running for a former employer, we had a guy come pick up my W9 to go grab a trailer south of San Antonio that was going to W Tx. It was kind of his trial run. I was down sick what ended up being pneumonia, so this guy gets upto my place, we talk a bit and I find out his experience and that he's been drivin a long time. When he leaves, I follow him in my wifes Tahoe and he seems to not have any issues. 3hrs later he calls me to let me know has the trailer but he's really sick and parking the truck/trailer at HEB (Tx grocery store) and is having an ambulance come get him. So I had to have my wife pack up our 3 3 week old son and take me 50some miles to recover the truck. Took every once of energy to drive back to my place with a 104 fever. No bs, he calls me the next day, then sends a text saying he's all better it was just a nasty virus. Like we were just gonna let him jump back in the truck, rotfl.
New Story: Had a gentleman start who retired last year and decided come back off the couch and work part time. He seemed a little rusty during the drive test but with a little extra time and coaching he shaped up pretty decent. I didn’t have the warm and fuzzies but felt good enough about the risk to bring him on. First day he picks a load going about 150 miles, all is good, gets to delivery and then things start to go wrong. I have Wabash sureloc handle trailers and even though he had been trained on it, he managed to not get it latched properly after opening the doors. Supposedly the dock he was backing into is fairly dark and so in any event one door came loose and he backed it right into the dock and snapped the hinges. Now there is a 2019 shiny rear door laying on the ground. Nobody around could get it in right away so had to cancel the back haul and come home loaded with a trailer door looking completely stupid with one door missing on the back. Oh the joys of trucking. Thank God it’s the weekend. lol
