I will flash my lights for a hazard. Cops, no way. The way folks drive these days a few of them deserve a ticket or 2.

I don't flash anymore - got a warning in my personal vehicle in 2011. Flashed my highbeams to warn others about a cop in 30mph zone. What I did'nt know at the time that there was another cop that I flashed at. He was in unmarked ford explorer. He turned around, stopped me and gave me a writtnen warning for " improper headlight use".
He was nice and was glad it was only a warning.

I thought that was the universal signal for there is a hazard, ie smokey, a bear, a mounty or other hazards such as a wreck. I warn people all the time. It is only fair.

In the first place your trainer was idiot flashing your headlights which is high beam is stupid and blinding oncoming traffic it used to be you turn your lights on and off so you don't blind them twice for a cop.

Flashing your bright lights. Never. Turn them off and on,to warn of an accident or if a cop has someone pulled over, not if the cop is watching traffic.
Use flashers instead of flashing headlights.

I get on the cb and flash the lights on a divided highway. I cancel them on an undivided highway or to signal a person who is trying to pass me.

Flashing high beams can mean many things by the executing driver but leave the other driver unsure. I don't warn people about cops. My thought is if they get a citation for speeding they probably deserved it. We used to have a thing called "respect" and " comaraderie" among us drivers but those days are long gone. Everyone is in a hurry and into themselves these days and most drivers don't give a hoot about you or your intentions.

It was a different world in 1980.
