Okay, so there I was washing my hands in the ladies room at the flying J since the driver restrooms were being cleaned. I look over at the flying j assistant manager and said "so how do you feel about Pilot buying the J?"

She looked startled and fumbled for words then I said "I think it sucks dirt". And at that point man did she start talking.

Here's the jest of the facts and I'm witholding her emotions. It'll take up to 6 months for the merger to go through, the j will keep it's name and operate pretty much as it has. There is no plans currently for the resturants to be closed and Pilot has not sent out any notices as it doesn't own the J yet. There have been faxes sent by individuals who have panicked and that she said is probably what the other J got that Judi Kay's brother was told about. The current increase in shower price was in the works for several months and was not due to Pilot.

Now, I suppose she could have told me wrong but she's an assistant manager of the location not just the store etc. It was a huge J.

You learn interesting stuff in the ladies room.

is everyone ready for MONOPLY? The J has something like 275 locations, the Pilot has around 300.

TA/Petro, doesn't even come close, Loves, a microscopic speck on the radar.

I wonder if and when they go before the gov. and the BK court , for approval, that they may have to sell some locations.

The J did close 9 resturants, due to lack of buisness. It was reported on another truckers website, as well as here some where in all these threads.
I know for a fact that the Lubbeck,Tx Closed, my best friend does a dedicated run for a o/o out of Idaho to Lubbeck every week.
He called me up one night swearing up a a storm about the J shuttering the restruant, with no warning posted anywhere.

I just hope Pilot doesn't remove all the resturants and replace them with a fast food court, like you find at malls.

If you happen to cross paths with her again, tell her how sorry I am for the merger situation to occur with the J. I have always liked the J. And the buffet, believe it or not.

99.9 of the people I have met who are employed at the J have been nice to me and appear to be hard working.

It seems this is merger of Pilot and the J could be like the scene from the movie, "Full Metal Jacket" and a line about the Tet Offensive could be used here ...

I have a hunch that all Country Market restuarant's will be tossed out and national chain fast food will be brought into all Flying J's.

Ding, Ding, Ding ! You hit the nail on the head. Pilot just wants to chew up drivers and spit them out.

This is very old news, and no longer even accurate?
Didn't the government say this buy-out could not be done, as it would give Pilot a monopoly????
