I am planning on becoming an Over the Road trucker and I have no trucking experience. I just went to the DMV to get my 5 year record. I didn't get the option of a 10 year record. Anyway, I know these aren't moving violations but I was wondering if they'd impact my chances of getting a good trucking job. These all occurred in Az at the same time...
3/2011 1. failure to register vehicle for the first time in state
2. failure to carry registration card.
3. Driving without license and proper endorsements. -

Question!
I have been out of work for a while now as a result of me being out work i fell behind on my child support thus my DL was suspended because of lack of payment, my dmv printout has no points or violations the only thing on it is the suspension under California WIC code for the child support.
My question is with the department of support releasing my licence will i have a problem getting my CDL, and i have been looking at some company websites they want you to have had a valid licence for a year my concern is with administrative suspension removed how will that reflect on my driving recorded will it be a totally clean record with my recorded showing original issue date or will it show as just issued like i just received a DL and if it shows as the latter how will this effect me getting employment with someone like Schneider and Werner, TMC, etc etc -
Recruiters will do a basic prehire and will lie to get drivers in the door. I'd be real careful because your situation is touchy. What I would do is maybe go over the recruiters head after he tells you you are good to go and talk with the safety dept. The safety dept will make the final decision.
You would be better off getting your training at a community college and have the CDL in your hand. Student loans are a piece of cake. -

hmm...Haven't had the time to read threw the thread to see if this was answered yet, but,
What if you had accidents, but they aren't your fault or they weren't filed as 'accidents'?
6 years ago I got cut off and took out a telephone pole (broke it into 3 pieces). The lady kept on driving but luckily there were witnesses to state to the police that I was cut off so I wasn't held responsible but since the lady left and nobody got her plate number, my insurance had to pay the bill to replace the pole.
3 years ago, I was rear-ended while I was stopped at a red light. The guy accepted blame, he wasn't paying attention. No police report was filed and his insurance paid for the vehicle.
Last year I bumped somebody, only damage was a little scratch to their bumper from the front license plate bracket of my pickup. There was no damage to my truck though so my insurance said it would be filed as property damage and wouldn't effect my insurance rates.Last edited: Sep 9, 2012

Hi, I am trying to be an OTR truck driver, but I'm not sure if my driving record will allow me. I will be 26 years old in October. I do not have a CDL, and am trying to get into a company sponsored program.
I have 3 speeding tickets, all within the past 3 years, but all over 2 years ago.
I had one in January 2010, one in June 2010, and one in August 2010. The one in January 2010 was for over 15 MPH. I have not gotten any tickets since August 2010.
Also, in February 2011, I was at fault in an accident during a blizzard. The accident was minor and the damage was under $1000. Since, I've slowed it down and don't speed anymore, but I'm not sure if all of this will prevent me from getting a job.
I applied for Swift, but they told me that I would have to get a CDL on my own, since I live in Massachusetts, which is not within their range for accepting new students.
I am wondering if I should get my CDL on my own and apply to companies, but I'm scared that I will waste my money by getting a CDL, and not get hired by anybody.
Will getting a CDL on my own guarantee that I get a job? Or should I wait until those tickets are more than 3 years old, and then get my CDL?
Also I have no driving experience other than driving a car. My only past jobs that I've had is my current security job and the military. I'm also not looking to have a job in MA. I'm stuck living with my parents right now, but I'd like to relocate out west, preferably NV, but anywhere out west would be fine.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
