The aftermath of Hurricane Irene wasn't overly complicated to deal with here on Cape Cod. We had a small storm surge causing the harbor to spill over the bulkhead, but only just. There were thousands without power even this far east from the storm. My two nights dealing with Irene at the harbor were uneventful and seemed to last forever (no power).

Getting back to trucking. I have begun to gather my resources and take stock of what I still have from driving before.

- CB √
- Truckers Atlas √
- GPS (Never rely on Reference Only) √
- Camera (Video & Still) √
- Binoculars √
- Laptop √
- External WiFi Antenna √
- Digital Audio Recorder (Used for notes & writing ideas) √
- Cheater Bar for sliding tandems √
- Kindle (Saves Space, better than a bunch of books) <Need to replace, broken>
- Cargo Lock (aka Meat Lock) √
- Fifth Wheel Hook √
- Tire Guage (140psi) √
- iPod √
- Reliable Cell Phone √

Things I still need to find or get:

- Trucker's GPS
- iPod Dock / FM Transmitter for tunes will driving.
- Passport
- TWIC Card
- CDL (minor I realize, but important LOL)

Well, that's were I'm at today ... looking forward to figuring out weather or not I'm going with a local school or a training company to get my CDL for the second time in my life. That decision depends a lot on weather or not I'm eligible for retraining after this job ends. I have my doubts.

If I'm not eligible for retraining I will likely go with Swift for training and the first two years back. I have a goal of working for Crete at some point in my career ... I have friends there and they love it ... we'll see. Thanks for reading the latest, I'll check in as soon as I have something new.

Rattle,

Are you strictly getting back into trucking to be OTR? Or would you consider a local company and be home every night or so?

There are private manufacturers, food processors, etc. in the 495 corridor in MA that have their own trucks to deliver what they produce.

The binos are for slow trucks. You have to use them before you pull out into traffic.:biggrin_2559:

If I can't afford the school, or I'm not eligible for retraining then I'll have to go with something like Swift.

But even if I do end up OTR, eventually I'd like to be local. But with six months experience over three years ago, I don't think local work is in the cards for me at the moment.

Well, I didn't want to admit that watching the Lizards climb in and out of trucks can be funny, but well ... there it is then.:biggrin_2554:
