Getting a dog, what do I need to know?

I’d have a new dog if I was there.

 

More than likely that poor thing would have been adopted by me. Deal with home then. If ever.

I took in a woebegone shepard one night as it hunted in a seriously driving rain storm cringing from the bolts of lightning. It had full collar, tags and so on. I got it into the workplace, dried it off, fed it which instantly make friends for life. It settled down under my feet as I tried to take care of the customers. (Ugh...)

I knew that I would be taking it to the shelter's night cage that night and I did. The moment that latch clicked...

HOOOWWWWWLLLLL. Breaks my heart why don'tcha. I sit in the hope that tag and numbers led it to reunification.

I'll share another happening which isnt so good, here i am coming through Terrell Tx by the lakes area in construction during yet another really major storm. See two rows of cars on either side trying to shove their way past me, Im rolling 70 trying to keep up. They are pushing 80 and 90 herd time. (Outrageous...) Company speed limit was 72 so... I was not all out.

Lab in my lane in the lights out of the rain trying to sniff cars zooming by on both sides at 80+ I had a problem. Do I kill people trying not to hit it or do I take it. I took it with a small centering of that wheel. The problem was the bumper was that KW rubber areo type underneath and bounced it into my engine block, then axle then into the shaft and rears. Badabump YELP! and trailer rumbles over the rest. 24 miles of driving rain, blood off all wheels across all three lanes. The traffic cleared out then. The rain was a blessing. Saved me from a particularly nasty task.

Even today I wished it was a instakill for mercy purposes. But no. I get to listen to that thing all the way under chop chop.

Even today I'll love on them, squeeze them, hug em, pet em, feed em, spoil em etc. I finally worked that one out of my mind as another animal kill in a bad spot. It wont be the first or last.

 

Seriously.... I've thought about a dog in my truck. Nuts about dog's. I have a cat now. Had her well before OTR. I love her dearly. I'm not cat crazy. I love animals. She's easy to take care of. Takes well to the truck.
I would be looking for an old dog. They take to laying around in a truck easier. I'd be looking for one that nobody else wants. But is a great dog. Perhaps an ugly dog. One that shallow people would never adopt. I love the person of the dog. A rescue dog, definitely. A dog that nobody else wants, is the best dog.

 

I have no one at home to care for my dog now. She will become a truck dog. Wanting a tracking collar to make sure she doesn't take off on me. Anyone have a good brand of tracking collar, for a truck dog?
