I recently lost my job and am reaching out to different people. I'm hoping to get something more local even though I was only OTR about three months. The problem is that the school I went to / Career Counseling is shut down due to the virus. I remember before the virus they had a bunch of local jobs no one seemed to want but now they aren't open and don't answer calls.

As to how I lost my job I was fired. I had an accident with a low clearance. It was totally my fault and I take the blame. There was some plastic knocked off the top of the truck and that's about it. No property damage. No other damage to the truck. I was going about five or ten miles per hour pulling into an area and hit the clearance, caught it before it got serious and hit Reverse. With that and my incident running into the ditch they decided to fire me and mark me as an unsafe driver. In regards to my accident, they had originally blamed the ditch incident on my trainer because they admitted that they knew I didn't know any better and he should have told me. Now they have used it to fire me. I asked about my DAC report and they told me they couldn't mark these on my DAC due to the fact that there were no police called so they marked it on my record as I was fired due to being an unsafe driver. They told me chances are a mega won't hire me but I should be able to find something somewhere. After this fiasco I'm not sure I want to be bothered with any more megas so that might not be a bad thing. I am currently waiting for a copy of my DAC report to see what all is on there. Friends have told me to sue for being unjustly fired and the fact that they refused to pay me for a week of work which is where I believe all of this started but I don't think it's worth the time or effort. I just want to put this company behind me and find some other work. I used to want $1200/wk which would be about $1K/wk with taxes and Insurance taken out. I understand that I might not get that due to the virus and lack of experience so I'm just hoping to make enough to keep my head above water. When this Quarantine is over I may have to look for something better but I'll worry about that then.

Personally I admit my error in hitting the low clearance and I understand what went wrong with the ditch. What I don't understand is how I got fired over it. There was never any property damage. No one was hurt. No police were called. When the truck went into the ditch it kept shutting itself off so they needed a tow truck. I was told that's due to the brand of truck it was and any other one would have driven right out of it. With the clearance it just knocked some plastic off the top of the truck. I understand and admit my error but I was in Training and there were no real damages. I didn't and still don't think those were worth firing me over nor writing me up as an unsafe driver and telling me that chances are it'll be very hard for me to get a job afterwards. That wasn't called for at all.

@Chinatown, do you know of anyone or any ways to reach out to companies local to my area? It's very hard to try to get any leads due to the virus. I have found a few and every single one says "Apply on the site" or to send my resume in. How do I apply for a job as a truck driver? My years were spent doing office work so all of this is new to me. I'm pretty sure I list my prior job but what do I say? How do I word it?

For the other jobs, does anyone know how to write a resume as a truck driver? I keep finding jobs that need six months experience. I only have three. I want to apply anyway but I have no idea what my resume is supposed to look like nor how I can explain what happened. I have pics and video to explain everything but I have to get the interview first and I don't know how to get that far especially in the wake of this virus.

One accident and one incident in a 90 day period is a sure way to set yourself up to get fired. The insurance companies get pretty nervous when that happens.

This is a company with an excellent reputation, good paychecks, and gives some drivers a 2nd chance.
Submit the online application, then follow up with a phone call.

If your fired for an accident you can collect unemployment in most cases. And the government is adding $600 to your claim, so you could get about $1000 a week for at least 4 months.

Then after this virus settles down and your unemployment runs out you can go on Craigslist and find a trucking job on there. Most dont check Dac on Craigslist.

That’s your best bet right now. Chill out on unemployment, keep looking. Employment Office might just be the place to find Local Job. Someone will hire you.

Some states will deny your claim and then only then will the processing begin with Covid federal unemployment.

    Everyone is behind.

Another problem with unemployment is that for example NY state claims to issue debit cards against Key Bank in Cincinatti and you would have trouble getting anything out of them online to transfer to your home bank checking account. Key bank pretty much froze that out. So many people are running into big time issues.

This may not clear out and return to normal. Thats finished and over with now. So stack your money if you find it and keep trying.

Next time put antennas on your mirrors to 13.6 so if they hit the bridge you know you wont fit before you try the tractor roof and trailer etc.
