You can really back yourself into a corner trying to outfox the law all the time. It's way easier and less expensive to do it right the first time

I took off before the baseball games came on tried to get at the fuel pumps by ridleys reveile on the trucking channel.

Sometimes had to load up take break with full hours but you'll make more money and better time and higher rates if o/o.

Better in winter to you can hit it perfect with a fresh plow all alone.

The hos are designed for you to run at night. Only fools run days. Doing this will actually give you extra hours if you can make it into Canada allowing you to get up to London at least. Repeat schedule over to Montreal =0 traffic

If I want to avoid a 34, I run my clock from the start of the week by making sure I'm done driving for the day before I'm below 1 hour left. I'm usually parked by 1:10 or 1:30 left. My QC gives back unused hours plus some refund hours by the end of the week and I don't have to force a reset. You won't get your full 70 back, but you can stretch however many days you need by not driving your 11s down to the last minute. I do this if Dispatch books me 3 or 4 runs out. Then I can plan to take a 34 someplace I prefer to spend a couple days.

Run hard, reset in a good location, repeat. That's the way to get the most miles out of the HOS if you're not stuck sitting waiting for loads.

I'm guessing you cross the border a few times in 3 weeks. I don't know how much say you have in things but if you don't average more than 10 a day and you can get back in Canada before your 70 runs out 70 in 70 is a whole lot better for recapping than 70 in 8.

I figured it out once. Always starting at 8am.
    6 11's and a 4, then 34 hour which turns into a 44 to allow start at 8am
    Or the 8.75 continuous.

Only four hours difference in a month between the two.
    One has good time off.

Yep border crossings are a every couple of days affair. I was told that since I work a number of weekends per three weeks out I can expect long runs over them since everyone else is at home. Was wondering about the Canadian HOS if that would come into the play though we are told to follow the US HOS. Guess I will start to figure out next week the best way to go and hopefully after six months I will have figured it out, lol

Yes you are governed by Canadian HOS while in Canada.

Some will say just run US hours in Canada, but there are a couple of things that can bite you on the butt if you don't know what you're doing..

You already mentioned the 24 hours off every two weeks rule.

Another one that can get you is that you have to have 10 hours off duty time in every 24 hour day... and only periods of 1/2 hour or greater count toward this total.

This isn't exactly the same thing as taking a 10 hr break in the US. In the US, it doesn't matter what time of day or night you drive or take a break. In Canada you have to watch how things line up at midnight.

If you're not careful with your off duty time, and end up taking a bunch of 15-20 minute breaks you might have to cut your day short to meet the 10 hours off duty rule.

    terryg247 Thanks this.

And of course the reset needs to 36 hours, not 34.
