What's it like working there? Never had the chance to talk to any of their driver at the Neville island tank wash but I see them all over the place.

Well It was my very first experience with tankers so I took the gig for the experience. Boy did I get that experience hauling both chemicals and petroleum products, both local and regionally. I hear out in Texas they do well but they aren't the best on the west coast. They opened the door to the private Fleet union job I have now so can't complain at all really.

Surprisingly, I can answer part of this. I was told that the mix of the asphalt has something to do with it. The quick setting stuff doesn't last as long as the slower setting stuff. I asked why not just use the slow stuff. He said for highway projects, they are told by the state DOT how soon they need the road back in use. So if your state isn't willing to wait a longer period of time, they get the quick setting, short lasting formula.
Guy seemed legit and I had no interest other than personal curiosity.

I've hauled both, the 6122 / Tek 22 is more bitumen.
The 3257 / HOT is real asphalt.
The road guys (or DOT>?) get in a hurry between the rainy season and the upcoming winters here, and use the bitumen often. Redundant; i know.
When I hauled a whole 53 tank of bitumen mix to Auglaize county last year, the DOT guys literally pumped their road-paver tanks off my truck, mixed it with an aggregate, followed by a roller, and by the time I was out of there, the roads were almost open (well, not for MY heavy ### but . . .)
The HOT asphalt, like 3257, we haul to Kokosing, which paves the HIGHWAYS. 71, 13, etc.. here. The other stuff is lukewarm, and spreads quick and dries just as quick.
No idea as to why DOT does this, except for the immediate need for the use of those 2 lanes here in Ohio country.
@Bill51 you were correct. I <<<shame>>> haul both.

^ I've heard that from the guys at Auglaize, @slim shady. Google earth that BFE county!! Another reason to rush thru and "git'r'done" no matter how it ends up. Bonuses, and hourly pay, ergo the HOUR lunch they took as I sat hours on end, two days in a row.
They had PBJ's and we had calzones; sure the heck wasn't sharing.

ps: and yes, Kokosing here in Ohio does also. {{{{smh}}}} my brother retired from there, at 55-ish. Big bonuses there.
