There is a good way to handle this AND not have to pay state income taxes. There are a few companies that offer mailbox services in non income tax states. Escapees rv club and Dakota post are two examples.

I literally just signed up with Dakota post and switched my Cdl over Tuesday. It was easy and painless. Rolled into town Monday night and spent 42 bucks a night on a room at motel 6. Made sure they put down Dakota posts street address on the receipt instead of my old one. Left the hotel at 9:30 am went to breakfast and then over to Dakota post and signed up for the mailbox. After leaving there I went to the dmv. I had to retake the hazmat test but didn’t have to redo my background test since they were able to look that up. And by noon I was back at the hotel relaxing and was officially a South Dakota resident.
