Sounds like a douche, I deliver to HD's all the time and never have that problem. I personally would have been at the desk and talking to a mgr and not waiting. I also don't walk away and sit in my cab while I'm being unloaded. I stand right at the door while they go. I can typically get my whole trailer unloaded in under an hour and back on my way. In my area JB Hunt does all the drop n hook for them and their used to it. If theirs just a trailer and no driver, thats where their mind is gonna go, if your there it's another story.

You also see the CEO of Quality Carriers affirming that regulations could improve the industry.

Like it's so much safer for the guy to sleep on an off ramp or in the bushes because of 10 minutes.
    Madness.

Realistically there will probably not be anywhere safe/comfortable/legal to park if you shut down 12 miles short of your drop, especially if you are headed into a major metro area. You committed to the delivery when you passed the last truck stop an hour ago IMO. Places like Home Depot usually have large enough parking lots to where you can park and not be in anyone's way if your 14 runs out.

I see where you're coming from but I think you're dreaming.

Companies could have got the same result from the shippers by enforcing detention charges but competition rules.

I don't live in the 'what if' world though and shutting down early because I only have 3 hours left on my clock and the next decent place to park for the night is 3 1/2 hours away makes no sense to me.

Ok but it takes just as long to get to a spot in a big shopping center, and they don't want you, so what is gained? Plus the driver is sweating bullets in the countdown, and more apt to make a mistake.
    The whole thing is madness.

If it helps, I've only been fully compliant with the HOS regs for one complete week since Memorial Day weekend. And that was the week I was on involuntary unpaid vacation due to the truck being at the dealership for repair and recall work. I've broken the 8 hour rule, the 11 hour rule, the 14 hour rule, AND the 70 hour rule, and on one particularly memorial day I broke all the above on the same day and at the same time!

It's pretty much a guarantee that when I get caught, I'll be done driving if I don't stop pushing so hard.

Crappedouttruckern it ain't my planning skills (which, by the way, are exemplary), it's getting stuck for 5 or 6 hours waiting to get loaded at properties that do NOT allow overnight or long term parking to allow breaks, or dispatches that are impossible due to traffic or accidents on the highway I can't legally get around.

I'm fully aware of the consequences of my actions. And I've opened dialog with dispatch over this issue. I've also said "tha heck with it" and slowed down. I now refuse to run faster than 60mph, and I burn my hours. Ain't making any extra money running myself into an early grave, so why put up with the extra stress?
