First week was great! Pretty much everything I expected. only big surprize was that there were 9 of us in class instead of six. It was actually supposed to be 11 or 12 but a couple didn't make it for whatever reason. The reason for the more students from what I understand is they cancelled the June 1st class in Ohio and sent the ones already registered for that class here. Monday consisted mostly of paperwork. You do have to fill out an application again so remember to bring all your names and numbers of past employers and references. You also learn how to do the log book. You will actually log your class room hours every day. Tuesday you do some reading and watch some videos on shifting. Plus a few quizzes. Wednesday is the Millis 500! You basicaly drive around the yard learning how to shift up and down while double clutching. You also practice going in and out of high and low range. Max speed for the Millis 500 is 15 MPH. Thursday is all class room, more reading, quizzes and videos about coupling and uncoupling. You'll also go over the different backing procedures (more quizzes more videos) as well as the pre trip insp. (you got it, more quizzes more videos) Today, Friday was all range time again practicing coupling and uncoupling as well as straight line backing and some parallel parking. Also did the pretrip. Everythings going great, Harold the instructor says guys are getting between 2500 and 3000 miles a week and that I should be able to get hooked right up with a trainer as soon as orientation is finished. So, thats one week down and two to go I will keep ya posted!
Good luck...just finished in Cartersville. Could not ask for better instructors. Orientation next week then about one week at home (my choice) before trainer picks me up. God Bless You.
So you were just up here the other day then right? Sorry I missed you. Let me know how it goes with the trainer. Thank you and God bless you too.
They cancelled the class in ohio????? they never called me and told me a thing about that im suppose to go to the june 1st class in ohio.... JstNew
Well thats really good to hear. All I know is thats what one of the guys in my class told me. As he was supposed to be in that class but is now in mine.
Well third week was a bit crazy started out Monday going up to black river falls from richfield (about a 3.5 hour drive) Once we got up there we got to meat Jazz, Mike Millis and a few others as well. Also while we were up there we found out we were picking up a trailer full of tires and taking them down to Trenton Ohio on Tuesday. Where we would off load about 50 of them then head on down to Cartersville GA. on Wednesday. Then, Thursday we drove from chattanooga TN. all the way back to richfield. Today (Friday) went back to school to take our road tests cuz it was graduation day (everyone passed) and ended up taking another trip up to Black River Falls to deliver the damaged trailer we picked up in Cartersville. All in all the three weeks of school were extremely helpful and very informative. Harold is a great Instructor with the most patience I have ever seen one human being have. I know I have a long way to go before getting into my own truck but at the same time have also came a hell of a long way since the first day of school. The best advice I can give anyone about to start class is this. Be patient, relax, don't get frustrated and as Harold would say "don't think, react." Especially when learning the backing maneuvers don't over think things just watch that trailer and react to it. So, Monday starts three days of orientation then hopefully i'll get hooked up with a trainer. As always, I'll keep ya posted.....
