You have to be honest with whom ever you apply with, backround checks in the trucking industry are the most indepth I ve ever seen in any profession. Most companies I ve come in contact with want 5 to 7 years with no crimnal activity or convictions. Just be honest with them and I m sure you ll find someone willing to take a chance on you. Good luck!

Honesty is king. Be honest explain the situation in full and take the results. some will turn you down but some will give you a chance. Lots of companies even hire with felonies but a misdemeanor is not much of a record. the biggest problem is it was for theft. dishonesty is a big no no to most companies. If you lie on your app they will find out and then your done for sure.

Well if this is the case i misunderstood the first post. What i would do is hire an attorney and get this either expunged from your record or at least get it sealed so it does not show up if in fact this is true. Sounds like the employer really gave you a deep shaft if this is the case.

Sorry but I smell more to the story then that how do you "forget" being "arrested". And theft charges of any kind are a big deal in this industry. What they are looking at is that you stole from an employer before so odds are you will again in this case from them. Fuel, tires, equipment items, items off of the load, items around the yard the list goes on and on and it happens daily.

The upside (according to many of us), is you are not qualified to go to Canada and be treated like crap!! Be happy!!

What you can do is what many of us are doing in the mean time, work local. Those lousy paying local jobs are generating more income than being OTR and not getting your layover pay!! We are home at night and making more than most drivers still trying to work OTR during this time.

The problem with this is that once it gets into USIS's database, it usually stays there. Even if it is expunged, it can show up on reports for years!

BUT, the main thing is to be honest with prospective employers. Many employers, especially smaller ones, will put as much emphasis on your military service as on a aging misdemeanor conviction. This is especially true if you held a clearance in the military, which would have required a background check that is MUCH more in-depth than most employers put you through.
