rollin ... welcome to the trucking industry .... here is some helpful advise that i am sure you will see one thing is , all of us drivers will agree too. and they are ...
1) if its hard for you to be away from your family and vise versa, get out while you can.. you will be away from the family... i been married 3 times and divorced 3 times ... trucking is in my blood and i have sacrafised alot for it but most on here will tell you, it will be hard to be away....
2) if you ever want to quick your 1st company, stick it out until you get the experience you need to go somewhere else and do NOT jump without a backup company that will take you.. try and not have gaps and try not to be a job jumper.....
3) if you do decide to quit for whatever reason, give them a notice or its a quit under dispatch on your record ... also do NOT NOT NOT leave a truck at a truck stop or have them come get it at your house .. or its truck abandonment .... clean out your truck on your last hometime if you have to and take the truck to the nearest terminal.. make sure you have greyhound money when you do so you can get home ... trust me you dont want to leave the truck anywhere or quit under dispatch....
4) its true not all company recruiters tell the truth... do alot of looking into companies before you decide on one.. i do have to say, you did learn early that what happens to 1 dont happen to all .... thats a good mind frame to have .....
5) no matter what, when you are unsure, GET OUT AND LOOK !!!!!! you dont want to be over confident and tap something ... that is a preventable and you dont need any of those on your record either .....
just some advise ..... iam sure you will hear a ton more ....
Got cdl on 2/19/13.. About to start work in 2 weeks!!
