So what. The company is required to retain logs for 6 months. If they shredded his yellows someone gonna be paying for a lotta toner and a ream of paper.

The yellow copy belongs to the driver.. period. Doesnt matter who paid for the logs. They are legal records the driver is entitled to maintain.

I didnt know, or think about taxes..

Legally your next job must ask and get your driving hours from previous week...I havent been asked to prove it by showing log copies, some companies probably do though, I just tell em whatever, or put whatever on thier paper..
But if you get a new job right away, and get pulled over, you know what boss man is gonna want!!! a week right ? THATS why I would have done something...not sure what though...I could range from filing a complaint with the manager, to jumping the guy and taking my stuff back, to calling DPS commercial services and snitch em off...

If you start driving tomorrow you'll need your last 7 days of logs. Who is this company?

If the logs are legally YOUR property, then taking them is larceny.

Option 1: Go to employer and demand them back.

Option 2: If they don't give them back, step off their property and call the police (non-emergency number, not 911). File charges. "Officer, my employment was terminated yesterday. Yesterday as I was leaving, employee Jim Smith took my personal property out of my duffel bag. I want my personal property back." Don't expect the officer to know what the logs are and exactly why you need them. Those things don't matter anyway. Be sure to use the phrase "personal property".

Option 3: If they don't give them back, go the the nearest police department and file larceny charges against the individual. He either will be arrested or receive a summons to appear in court. Either one will get their attention.

You may want to publish the name of the trucking company with their address, phone number, and website. Readers of this forum may have a need to know to protect them "down the road".

Thank you for your service! God bless you and your family!
