The op hasn't been on this thread since he posted.I think he was instructed to go pick up a trk at the shipper and took a cab to the shipper, therfore while on his way to the trk in the cab he is on duty according to the law.

it can be off duty if ur granted 10 hrs off once you arrive at the location of p/u...but if you got in the taxi and where gonna p/u the truck and going right to work then the cab ride must be on duty...

The point that should be noted here is that since the truck was at a scale, you better be 100 percent legal when you enter to pick it up.

I remember seeing it, but not correctly.

Either way, the dot will ask how you got to the truck. It is a no brainer. He was sent to pick it up.

Yea that last company I worked for had electronic logs and they wanted you to log all but 8-10 minutes off duty while you were loading and unloading so that's what I did.

I want to know how DOT knew you were in a taxi? I mean at what point did that come into a need to know conversation? I never volunteer any information,.. I try to keep my answers as curt as possible. If you logged a PTI when you got the truck, then went to a driving status,.. thats all DOT needed to know. Nothing more.

For all they knew you've been in that truck for the last month. Dont give them any ammunition to write you up for anything. They will, can and do. They have no mercy.

Chalk it up as lesson learned.
