Guess I need to give up my dream of getting my CDL

Yea, I know he states that. I simply don't believe he's looked at all his options. Heck my school self financed and he cannot be in much worse of a place than I was financially. Maybe I just got lucky, maybe looking around for a good year to find something paid off.

Become unemployed in NJ and you have the state pay for your CDL school. Lord knows I trained alingside plenty of them when I went through.

 

Well it depends too what kind of trucking and his work ethic. I went company trained because I didnt have the money either. Got into team hauling reefers. We load our own trailers throughout the week. Ended up making way more that I thought I would for my first year. Lots of fatigue but overall its been lucrative and a lot of fun.. All in an automatic semi.

Just tryin to help the guy out as others on this site did for me a year ago. When ur pulling in 1000-2000 a week, who cares about an auto-restriction? I wouldn't care! And my savings account wouldnt either. Thats the whole reason we work.

 

But here is what your missing, lets say you and another driver go for the same job, you have an auto restriction, they don’t, you will get passed over for them 100% of the time, even if all the trucks are automatic, because if something goes wrong with the truck, and the company has to rent one, most of the time it will be a standard, guess who won’t be rolling?

 

But a smart man can get a lot done with that money while it’s booming.

Except you wont even have the opportunity to be turned down because you are not even on the road. That's the whole point i am making. All your excuses dont even apply because you have not even started yet.

You are like that character on the Franz Kafka short story where he wants to walk through a door to get to where he is going... But its being guarded and he sits and waits and waits and waits. Until finally after years he finally asks the guard, who are you guarding for? He said he was guarding it for you, you were supposed to walk through, but you never did. Its too late now. Then the guard shuts the door, it locks, and walks away.

Half of the trucking companies offer Tuition Reimbursement to pay for your CDL school. Sell some of your junk, work at McDs and save your money. Pick a company with a company-sponsored CDL school and get the license with an automatic only license. That's what 80% of us are driving or will be driving very soon. If throwing the stick is a big deal to you, save a couple hundred dollars after you start working and go get it removed from your license. It will be a novelty sooner or later. Stop & go traffic is a daily reality. Automatics are perfect for that. Most automatics can be used either as a manual, or ALMOST like a manual when youe really need it.

I think you are looking for an excuse. Maybe I'm wrong.

 

I seem to remember a LOT of guys that would only drive Peterbuilts.

And there was a company in El Paso with nice black Pete’s. They would put them in one, at .25 a mile. While I was making .42 driving a KW.

Again, I’m getting quite sick of repeating myself, maybe I’m not making myself clear enough:

A company would charge the same amount of money whether you test in an auto or a manual, the difference is one gets you a full CDL, and one does NOT get you a full CDL, pretty much can guarantee the only companies that would hire with an auto restriction are megas, megas mean absolutely nothing to me, once I get my cdl, and my year is up, and I mean year, I’m out like a white kid in a street fight and going local, I’m not willing to roll the dice with an auto restriction on getting a job, I don’t understand why it’s so hard for people to understand that I don’t want ANY restrictions on my license, I don’t care if I get an auto truck, I want to test in a manual

WHY should I be forced to pay the same amount of money and I don’t even get a full license out of it?!

All I can say is it’s a good thing I don’t have any power, because if I did, you wouldn’t be allowed to test in an auto period, no exceptions

Saving money isn’t very easy, especially when you work the hours that I do, to barely scrape by, no time for a second job, and I own like 3 things, would get maybe $500 for the lot

That’s different than getting half a CDL, a CDL with a restriction severely limits your job options
