No driver shortage, only a shortage of companies willing to pay wages and benefits commensurate with the risks of driving a 40 ton missle down the road and the lifestyle that goes with it.
I remember asking one of the brass at May Trucking in 2010, when I was only a year into trucking, why they had adopted a low wage, high turnover, training model.
It didn't make sense to me...
Until he told me they were receiving federal tax write off subsidies/credits for "training" "displaced workers".
To the tune of $10,000 per at the time.
